NO BURGLARIES IN THE LAST 48 HOURS
BUT – 2 CARS ENTERED AND SEARCHED – WHICH MUST HAVE BEEN LEFT INSECURE, AS THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO OPEN THEM
FIRST – I put this message out in Old Windsor today. The message is relevant for everyone ! We all have to do our bit to protect ourselves, our neighbours and our communities !
6/2 Monday 1 p.m. / 2 p.m. Church Road. Car rear windscreen smashed. A witness reports seeing 3 Asian and a white youth walking down the road trying car door handles ! This should have immediately been phoned through to the police as a 999 call as a crime in progress !
6/2 Monday 2.10 p.m. Robin Willis Way. The aggrieved had parked and was walking on the Rec, when she saw a group of youths surrounding her car. When she got back, they ran off, but she found her rear windscreen smashed and her HANDBAG had been stolen. This may have been the same group of youths seen above. If they had been phoned through to the police, this crime may have been prevented ???
I put this out in Maidenhead, but it is useful advice for everyone !
PINKNEYS GREEN & FURZE PLATT:
7/2 – 8/2 Tuesday 10 p.m. / Wednesday 7 a.m. Halifax Road. Shed break. Lock forced. Naslo nail gun and a router stolen. We are suffering shed and garage breaks at the moment – the beginning of Spring is always a time for this as we start clearing up our gardens and buy tools at car boots / Ebay etc. TWO THINGS – buy a battery shed / garage PIR sensor alarm from Amazon for £8.48 ! They are 110 decibel, can be placed on a shelf, or hung on a back wall, do not need power as they are battery operated, are turned on and off with a fob, so no fiddling around and will go off if the door is opened and it senses movement or heat. 110 decibels in a contained environment during the early hours is deafening ! This is a really cheap solution to this problem. Hanging one in the back of a van containing tools, serves the same purpose !

2. Property mark all your tools. Post Code and house number (some post codes are shared by multiple houses) or the first three letters of your house name, if you don’t have a house number – BUT NOT – ‘The’ if you are The Vicarage !!! Use a silver or white felt tip and spray a little varnish over the top – A ‘Cre Marker’ specifically made for this job costs £13.50.

We offer to come out and mark all your equipment for you with a Cre Marker FREE – Just email your request to your particular Neighbourhood Team at their group email addresses above. For mowers and larger items, have a session with kids / grand kids, painting flowers in bright colours from test pots over your equipment. It will prevent them being stolen, because they are then unique and very identifiable. It will also give you a lovely experience with the kids and act as a wonderful memory, every time you use that tool !
As I say – we are entering peak Shed / Garage break in time – do it now !

6/2 – 7/2 Monday 11 p.m. / Wednesday 6 a.m. Station Road X 2. 1. Garage break – door forced and CAR ENTERED BY UNKNOWN MEANS – Car log book, coin purse and leaf blower stolen. 2. CAR ENTERED BY UNKNOWN MEANS and rear seats pulled – car searched, Prada handbag and fuel cards stolen. This was captured on a neighbours CCTV ! As I have said, if I report a crime in, or near your road, please check your CCTV if you have it. You may not have been a victim of a crime, but an offender may have had a good look at your property and decided not to break in – in which case, there will be no evidence to alert you to anything, but you could have some really useful footage.
NO CRIME TO REPORT.

FIRST – from Sgt Jemma Calver:
From Monday 6 February through to Tuesday 28 February, Thames Valley Police is leading on a campaign that will target rural crime affecting businesses and farms in our region.
As part of the campaign the RBWM have recognised that one of the crimes affecting the rural community is burglary non dwellings and so officers will be approaching farms and stables within the area to offer tool marking and registering of items and tools on immobilize.
If anyone would be interested in this then please let your local NHPT know or visit www.immobilise.com/.

I hope I am contacting you in the correct way. I read all your alerts about scams, but I wanted to let you know I received a call the other day purportedly from Sheffield solicitors. It started with "We are Sheffield solicitors, hello m'am how are you today?" I then put the 'phone down
Thanks Barbara, I have never been cold called by a solicitor yet !!!
So – has anyone else had a call like this ? If so – where did it lead ?
You may already be aware of this but this morning I received this text from GovUK.
‘ Your tax refund of 265.84GBP is pending to proceed please follow our secure link below. Your bank may require extra verification.’
There followed an http link, not a https so clearly not secure!
Plus it’s not to a government web site that they are directing your response to !
As everyone who is responsible for submitting tax returns will have just done so, they may be duped into think there is a refund due after all.
Unlike myself, who is PAYE, I know that I am not due anything by way of a refund.
So it would appear that this is the seasonal scam coming our way.
Hope this is of use.
Absolutely right Lyn – HMRC scams are coming in thick and fast at this time.
NEXT – COLD CALLERS
For your newsletter
Cold callers: You have reported on this before, but thought I would let you know that a group of men who describe themselves as gardeners, with the initials J & L, are looking again to take advantage of vulnerable adults.
Specifically targeting bungalows, with no cars in the drive (such as those in the Farm Rd area). They knock on the door, persuade the vulnerable adult that they need some gardening work undertaken, do a bit and charge an extortionate price – cash or a cheque. If a cheque is obtained, it is banked the same day.
My mother in law, who has been diagnosed with mixed dementia, has been conned at least 3 times over the last 18 months, and I have now had to remove her cheque book, but left her with her debit card linked to a “day to day” account with no overdraft and the usual bank £300 “buffer” removed.
A mid Dec £240 cheque was paid out to a JL. They then called again mid January and said they had carried out work and asked for £280. On being told she did not have the cash and could not find her cheque book, they kindly suggested they take her to the bank (as they did on an earlier occasion) to draw out the cash – fortunately she refused.
The man returned the next day in a white van with yellow curved writing on it. This time, her carer was present (but had parked elsewhere) and he again asked for a cheque, before the carer confronted the man, who declined to give any details so I could settle any debt and left.
On the 3rd day, my wife parked down the road and a younger man turned up, to be surprised by my wife answering the door and strongly telling him to go away and not to bother her mother ever again.
We have all emphasised the “do not open your door to strangers” but, as you know, these nasty individuals are very persuasive.
The cost to my mother in law, over the 18 months is nearly £2,000, some distress and (the removal of the cheque book) and less independence. This latest harassment is being investigated by the police, but proof of who actually called is difficult to obtain.
I am grateful to Graham for this, as it shows you just how these people work. I can tell you 100 times:
NO ONE COMES INTO YOUR HOME UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM, OR THEY HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT
I AM SORRY, I DO NOT BUY GOODS OR SERVICES AT THE DOOR
But you need to hear how it affects real people and what the effects are – apart from losing a lot of money ! This is the reality, of the words you read in my messages and why it is so important to spread the messages as far and wide as possible and keep an eye on elderly residents in your road who want their independence, but are targeted, because of that independence !
NEXT: SCAM PARKING EMAIL
I thought you might like to see this. I have seen and been sent some scams, but this is a new on to me.
The email comes from a Parking Enforcement Company and is a ‘Parking Complaint Warning’ – the wording is– and is a ‘penalty for parking on a private yard with no authorisation from parking manager’.
To obtain more details……. You have to click on a link – ‘SHOW DETAILS’
DON’T DO IT !
NEXT the Paypal scam is still with us !
Had another call from Pay Pal informing me that my account was not fully functional. Needless to say, I deleted it straight away after checking my on line account. All ok of course. Just to let you know that they are probably doing the rounds again.
Eyes and Ears..........and Brain.
