Crime Update Wednesday 26th July 2017 - Windsor

Alert message sent 26/07/2017 16:11:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

This message is dated Wednesday 26th July 2017 for Windsor.

FIRST - I attended a meeting of the Maidenhead Rotary Club on Monday evening.  An excellent dinner provided at the Holiday Inn !  I would like to thank them for being a brilliant, receptive and supportive audience.  As always, even delivering quite a tough crime prevention message, we did have quite a few laughs, which makes the bitter pill go down much easier.  All my meetings have to be interactive and involve everyone sharing experiences to make it fully effective.  Everyone joined in, which made the time pass really quickly and anyone who knows me and has been to one of my presentations knows………… we did overrun, for which I apologise, but it does tend to happen.  I don’t want anyone to leave without having all their questions and worries answered.

I am grateful for you making my job a pleasure - thank you Rotary Club of Maidenhead.  If anyone wants me to come out and speak to their scheme / group / club /day centre etc. - just let me know at my email at the bottom of this message.

Hi Jeff,

I discovered today that my spare wheel has been stolen from under my vehicle.  The thieves cut the spring that lowers the spare wheel to the ground.

I have no idea when this may have happened and it is not a crime that needs urgent attendance, but, in my opinion, these crimes do need to be reported, to ensure that crime figures are accurate.

I had the rear brakes replaced about 2 weeks ago, but the technician who effected the repair does not remember whether there was a spare wheel under the car or not.  Therefore, I cannot be sure when this may have happened.

Has anything similar happened in this locality recently?  If so, do you have any suspects ?  My wife's car was broken into, on our drive about three months ago, so it may have happened at that time.

Kind regards

John

I am sorry, but there does appear to be a problem at the moment and the PEC is taking longer than usual, to respond.  All crime must be reported as without that information, we cannot establish patterns, routes and then identify possible offenders.

We do have periods, when spare wheels are stolen from under cars.  If we do, I always put out a message, asking owners of cars with spares underneath, to check them regularly and to always park rear end in, against a wall / barrier, to prevent the thieves having easy access.  At the moment, I am not aware of a series happening at this time.

NEXT - We have received calls from residents in Sunningdale about cold callers ringing doorbells offering to clean gutters etc. over the last week.  Please remember the NHW Mantra….

I AM SORRY, I DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR !

Dear Jeffrey,

I often receive emails from my co-ordinator, but today I have received one, but the address is very subtly different and many people may not notice.

Please can you warn all your 'Alert' contacts to look for an e-mail address that is almost correct, but not quite?

Thank you,

Gill

This was the message Gill received, with a single letter difference in the email address.:

This was a completely SCAM email.  The senders computer has been infected with a Trojan.  This sends this email to everyone in their personal address book.  It is a slight variation of the …’I am crying as I write this email.  I am on holiday in XYZ and have been robbed, losing my passport and credit cards……etc.

NEXT - WINDOWS SCAM TELEPHONE CALLS:

Hi Jeff

I answered my landline this morning - which I do not do very often - and a lady who spoke with an accent (sounded like Chinese to me).  She said she was Jane Smith calling from Microsoft, about my computer.  I just said in a loud voice - Oh yes, I've been waiting to hear from you - the first thing that came into my head - and she put the phone straight down !

Best regards

Lesley

There are hundreds of these calls being made every day.  We must circulate the warnings as far and wide as we can, to protect more vulnerable residents.
